Email Services

  • The Central Email Service offers a robust, fully featured email service for NIH.

     

  • Email Web Access, also known as Outlook Web Access or Web Mail, provides NIH staff with a means to access their email over the Web.

     

  • Anti-Spam provides detailed information about the protections offered at NIH against unwanted, commercial email.

     

  • Email Anti-Virus provides information about the antivirus service that is used to protect your email. Please see Desktop Anti-Virus for information about antivirus protection for your desktop computer.

Secure email is an important part of communications at the NIH, and two methods are available:

  • Secure Email uses a PKI certificate over S/MIME to send encrypted email; the sender and receiver must have PKI certificates. 
  • Secure Email/File Transfer does not require PKI and has the added benefit of being able to send very large files securely.  

Other Messaging Services

Instant Messaging offers NIH staff virus protection for external IM services: MSN/Windows Live Messenger, AOL, Yahoo, and Google Talk, and internal instant messaging using Microsoft Lync (formerly Office Communicator Service or OCS).

Wireless Messaging at the NIH supports BlackBerry and ActiveSync devices such as Apple's iPhone and iPad, as well as Windows-based smartphones.

The NIH Central Fax Service (eFax) provides NIH with a way to send and receive facsimiles electronically, right on the computer desktop. For information on sending and receiving electronic faxes, please see the eFax instructions page.

The NIH Paging Services offer pager support for the Clinical Center and others.
